"Class"-y

Intro to Linguistics still rocks.
 
So far my only real problem has been grasping some of the nuances of different sounds.  For example, I pronounce the words "caught" and "cot" exactly the same way, but our textbook uses those words as examples of two distinct vowel sounds.  This is the fuzzy side of linguistics, and it's driving me crazy.
 
On a slightly-related note, I still can't roll my Rs.  I'll have to get that taken care of before I start Spanish in the Fall.
 
But I'm enjoying the class immensely.  Heck, even the observation project I'm doing is kinda fun.

You might notice that I've changed my signature.  Since I use "Martinez" on all the other blogs, I figured it was kinda silly to use something else on mine.
